Martha's Iced Coffee

Last week while driving through Connecticut I had lunch with Martha   and her sister Laura at  Richard Gere”s restaurant The Bedford Post Inn. After lunch we went back to Martha”s house, she made iced coffee, and we had Maple Walnut Pie I brought from the the Noonmark Diner in Keene Valley, NY. The coffee was so  delicious and refreshing,  I have been craving it ever since, I think the secret is in the pure cane sugar cubes she added to the hot espresso and steamed whole milk. martha”s ice coffee- Pour a shot of hot espresso into a heatproof glass, add one pure can sugar cube and stir until the sugar dissolves. Fill the glass with ice. Steam cold milk just to make frothy, do not heat the milk completely. . Pour the milk and froth over the ice into the glass with the espresso, stir and serve cold.

Maxie and Rubie, my Jack Russels were with me on the ride and missed their opportunity to be on The Daily Wag with Francesca and Sharkey, Martha”s dogs. They were not really as well behaved as they should have been, hope they get invited back.

After coffee I toured the farm and garden to see what was new. I loved all the potted succlents around the terrace and house, here are a few of my favorites

  1. Well, my name is Martha too and my iced coffee is similar except that I take leftover cold coffee previously brewed and freeze it in ice cube trays – that way, when the ice melts, it doesn’t water down the coffee!
